ONE WAY STREET
Taking a lie for the light,
When I know it’s not right, I’d rather smile than cry, When there are tears in my eyes. I can’t keep with the beat, So why take me downtown, down a one way street, With no way to bow out? Hate laughin' along, When I’m doing somethin' wrong, At the butt of a joke, Like a stupid, old bloke. I feel so used, Like old leather shoes, That you like to tromp in, To break and to bruise. Sometimes I’m afraid, Of not being me. One that wants to please, Isn’t one I want to be. And when this happens, I want to burn this skin, The one I’m breathing in, Though I know it’s a sin. I should just tell you, When it’s not funny anymore. But I’m afraid to lose you, Don’t want to lose anymore. With no way out, Down a one way street, I’ll keep it inside, Until I can’t breathe. |
