PAPER STARS
I promised you a thousand cranes,
With paper wings and paper trains. But how is it you left me here, And found your way up there? But as the cranes can’t reach the moon, I cannot hope to see you soon. And as my mind grows dark and starry, I’m crying – saying sorry. Sorry that it was my fate, For being far too late. Sorry that I was not there, Don’t think that I don’t care. I heard that your hand Sought mine one last time… But as your breath flew to the sky, I didn’t get to say goodbye. Now in my arms are paper stars, Below are lights and speeding cars. And as I fling my arms above, The stars all fly like turtledoves. I promised you a thousand cranes, With paper wings and paper trains. But all I have are paper stars, To reach you where you are. |
